From prototype to product
Finding the smallest useful starting point and building a foundation that can grow.
I’ve spent more than 25 years turning complicated industry problems into software products that people and businesses can depend on.
Today, I’m Co-Founder and CTO of Staff Rodeo, where I’m building AI-powered technology for the staffing industry.
My career has taken me from hands-on software development to architecture, product strategy, company building, and executive leadership.
At Foko Retail, I wrote the first lines of code and helped grow the company over an eight-year journey into a platform used by more than 50 major retailers, including CVS, Whole Foods, Converse, and Victoria’s Secret.
We grew by approximately 80% annually, reached breakeven, and were acquired by WorkForce Software in 2021, delivering returns of 3X to 10X for investors.
I remained close to the technology throughout. Leadership is stronger when it is grounded in an understanding of how products are actually designed, built, operated, and improved.
Finding the smallest useful starting point and building a foundation that can grow.
Making practical technical decisions based on business needs, constraints, and long-term consequences.
Growing technical organizations from a single builder to multidisciplinary teams of more than 40 people.
Continuing to write code, explore new tools, and work directly with architecture and implementation.
Building an AI-powered SaaS platform that helps staffing firms understand their data, identify stronger candidate matches, and communicate more effectively.
Helped build a technology company using software and artificial intelligence to make complex billing information easier to understand and compare.
Led engineering within a growing technology organization, connecting technical execution with product and business priorities.
Joined WorkForce Software following its acquisition of Foko Retail and continued leading software development within a larger enterprise organization.
Built the original product and helped grow Foko Retail into an enterprise task-management and communication platform used by more than 50 major retailers.
Helped transform a legacy software product into a modern SaaS offering with reliable systems and third-party integrations.
Created an early prototype that developed into enterprise community software delivered to organizations including John Deere, the United States Army, and Lockheed Martin.
Maintained and developed the organization’s internal and public websites.
I’m interested in technology that creates meaningful leverage rather than novelty for its own sake.
I’m optimistic about new technology, but not uncritical of it. Tools change quickly. Sound judgment, curiosity, and clear thinking remain remarkably durable.
